Social media offers so many opportunities to advertise a business and with the right tips and tricks, it can be a base to launch your local business to new levels of success. In this article, we are going to share some of our favourite tips to help you get your business in the spotlight.
Let your personality come through:
At Spotlight, we believe even the smallest of businesses can have a big personality online and a mistake a lot of local companies make is trying to look corporate on social media. One of the best things about local business is the personality of the people that run it, don't be afraid to show this online it will help people connect with you.
Two great posts are better than five bad posts:
It can be hard to find the time to create great content for your business social media so it is important to be realistic about what you have time to do. If you only have two spare hours a week commit to posting two great posts a week. The quality of a post is more important than the frequency.
Wherever possible use your own photos:
Real photos are almost always better than stock photos. For example, if you run a business such as a restaurant, customers would much rather see a photo of a meal you have cooked over a highly produced stock image that they know is not real.
Don't forget to ask for reviews:
Facebook is a great place to display all those positive reviews from customers, try putting up a sign in your business that asks people to leave a review or simply ask them.
Get someone outside your business to check your post makes sense:
We can all be guilty of using industry jargon sometimes so a good idea is to ask a friend to read your post before you post it to check it makes sense.
Don't post the same content on every social site:
Each social media site requires a different format of the post to be effective. For example, you should not use the same amount of hashtags on Facebook as you use on Instagram. If you are not sure what sort of format is best to use try looking at big companies’ social media and seeing how they format posts.
We hope these tips help to get some great content out on social media, happy posting.
